Accessibility statement

Last updated 1 October 2026

This statement applies to Checked by Durham Lifting, the inspection and asset-management system operated by GS and SG Holdings Ltd and used by Durham Lifting Ltd and its customers.

We want the system to be usable by everyone who has to use it — including engineers working outdoors in gloves, on a phone, in poor light, and people using a screen reader or keyboard alone.

How accessible this system is

We have not yet carried out a formal accessibility audit, so we are not in a position to claim conformance with WCAG 2.2 at any level. We would rather say that plainly than claim a standard we have not tested against.

What has been done deliberately:

  • Touch targets on phones and tablets are enlarged for use with gloves, rather than being sized for a mouse pointer
  • Pages work at phone width without sideways scrolling
  • Navigation and forms are standard HTML links and forms, so they work with the keyboard and the browser’s own back button
  • Information is not conveyed by colour alone — statuses carry a word as well as a colour
  • The system works without JavaScript for its core reading paths

What we know is not right yet

  • The site map is drawn with an interactive map component and has no equivalent keyboard-only path. Everything on it is also reachable from the Sites list, which is the accessible route to the same information
  • Certificates are produced as PDFs, which are not fully tagged for screen readers
  • Colour contrast has not been measured systematically across every component
  • Scanning a tag needs a phone with NFC, so it is not available to everyone. Every item can also be found by searching for it

Telling us about a problem

If something is hard or impossible to use, we want to know — it is treated as a fault, not a suggestion. Telephone Durham Lifting on 01325 318844 and say it is about accessibility, or report it through the app.

Tell us what you were trying to do, what got in the way, and what you use to browse if you know. We will acknowledge it and tell you what we intend to do.

If you need something in another format

Certificates, registers and reports can be provided in an alternative format on request. Ring the number above and tell us what would suit you.

What happens next

A formal audit against WCAG 2.2 AA is planned. When it has been done, this page will be replaced with the findings, including anything that fails, and when we expect to fix it.

Checked by Durham Lifting is operated by GS and SG Holdings Ltd.
