These terms cover the use of Checked by Durham Lifting, operated by GS and SG Holdings Ltd. They are between us and the person using the system. Any separate contract between Durham Lifting Ltd and its customer, or between Durham Lifting and us, sits alongside these terms and takes precedence where the two differ.
Access
Accounts are issued, not self-registered. Your access is granted by Durham Lifting or by an administrator at your own organisation, and can be withdrawn by them. You may see only your own organisation’s equipment, and only the sites you have been given.
Your login is yours. Do not share it or let someone else work under it — examination records are signed with the name of the account that made them, which is precisely what gives them their value.
What the system does
Checked by Durham Lifting records thorough examinations, inspections, pre-use checks and faults, and produces reports and certificates from what has been recorded.
It records examinations; it does not carry them out. A certificate produced by this system reflects what a competent person entered on a given date. It is not a judgement by us about whether an item is fit to use, and a record in the system does not relieve anyone of their duties under LOLER, PUWER or any other regulation.
If an item is marked as failed, condemned or overdue, take it out of service. Do not rely on the system to stop it being used.
Accuracy of what you enter
You are responsible for what you record. Examination records carry legal weight, and significant changes to them are logged against the account that made them.
Availability
We aim to keep the system available at all times but do not guarantee it. It may be unavailable for maintenance, or because of a failure at a supplier. Keep your own means of working if an examination cannot wait.
Acceptable use
- Do not attempt to reach another organisation’s records
- Do not copy the system, or extract its data wholesale, other than the exports it offers you
- Do not upload anything unlawful, or any personal information that is not needed to explain the condition of equipment

Changes
We may change these terms. If a change materially affects how you may use the system, we will tell account holders before it takes effect.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
